METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it has not penetrated the surface, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a warm and stringy glob. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper directly under the gum residue. Then we slide the scraper very slowly under the gum and the entire piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we don’t use very high pressure because that might damage the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses any more pressure than needed to clean commercial concrete. These surfaces can be destroyed much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our chewing gum removal professional.
